Talk & Workshop

What would the world look like if the products and services we use every day were ‘inclusive by design’? In this talk, we will discuss how being aware of exclusion and barriers creates opportunities to generate new ideas and create solutions that will positively impact society.

We will take a look at various existing products, services, and experiences and identify ways that they might exclude or inconvenience certain users. Then we will apply inclusivity-driven thinking to them and share our creative solutions with each other.

Join Masa and Kumi from global design studio R/GA as they lead us through a talk and interactive workshop on how to design inclusively. Come join us for a fun night of drinks, community and workshops to get you thinking inclusively in your own practice!

About Our Speakers

Masa
Masa is an Associate Creative Director at R/GA who has spent the past year focused on integrating new consumer-side hardware and technology into innovative user experiences via software design.

After leading a NIKE and Jordan Brand design team that focused on product innovation and member services in R/GA New York for little over 5 years, she moved to Japan to start up R/GA’s Tokyo office in 2016 and is currently leading a Google creative team for the Asia-Pacific region.

In her 7 years at R/GA, Masa has worked on websites, devices, and connected retail spaces for MUJI, Shiseido, Beats, Coke, Samsung, MasterCard, and R/GA accelerator. Her work has been recognized by creative competitions including the Cannes Lion, The ADC Awards, ADFEST, CODE Awards, Cilo Sports, The Midas Awards, and The Silver Bowl Awards. In her spare time, she collaborates with other designers to publish magazines, launch apps, or design clothing.

Kumi Tominaga
Kumi has been with R/GA since 2004 when she joined the New York office as a creative technologist. Her first project, NikeLab won a Cannes Cyber Lion Gold the following year.

Throughout her career, Kumi has developed a string of award-winning websites and mobile apps for Nike, Fossil, MasterCard, Nokia and Verizon. She was also a founding member of the R/GA Prototype Studio, joining an interdisciplinary team of designers, data scientists and developers.

At R/GA NY, Kumi was a developer on the team that created the iPhone app for Nike FuelBand which was first released in 2012. In 2015, she also worked on Fossil Smart Wearables, prototyping the wearable experience with the hardware and creating the iPhone app.

Kumi is a strong advocate and mentor for women in technology and engineering roles, and a vocal champion for the importance of STEM subjects amongst young women.

私たちが日常使用しているプロダクトやサービスに「inclusive by design」の要素があったら、どのような社会になるでしょうか? このトークでは、排他性またバリアの存在を認識することが、どのように新しいアイディアの生成、そして今の社会への大きな貢献につながるかについて、ディスカッションを進めていきます。

まず、現在市場にある様々なプロダクト、サービス、エクスペリエンスについて検証し、特定ユーザーを除外したり、不便さを与える可能性のあるポイントを特定していきます。これに対し、R/GAが「インクルーシブ - 包括性を主軸にしたアプローチ」を提示し、そのクリエイティブな解決策を参加者と共有します。

田中　雅 | Associate クリエーティブダイレクター

マサはR/GAアソシエイト・クリエイティブ・ディレクターとして、ユーザーが使う新しいハードウェアやテクノロジーを、デザインを介して全く新しいユーザーエクスペリエンスに融合することに取り組んでいる。 R/GA New Yorkにて、プロダクト・イノベーションに特化したナイキとJordan Brandデザイン・チームを先導し、メンバーとともに5年以上活躍した後、2016年R/GA’s Tokyoオフィスの立ち上げのために日本に移動。現在Googleクリエイティブ・チーム(アジア太平洋地域担当)を率いる。 R/GAでの７年間で、MUJI、資生堂、Beats、コカ・コーラ、サムスン、MasterCard、R/GA acceleratorなどのウェブサイト、デバイス、コネクテッド・リテール・スペースなどの数々のプロジェクトを手掛け、その成果はカンヌライオンズ、 ADC 年間アワード、アジア太平洋広告祭、 コードアワード、Cilo Sports、The Midas Awards、The Silver Bowl Awardsといった多くのクリエイティブ・コンペティションにて表彰されている。自分の時間は、他のデザイナーとのコラボレーションによる雑誌の発行、アプリケーションのローンチ、ファッションデザインなどを手掛けている。

富永久美 | クリエーティブ・テクノロジー・ディレクター

クミは、2004年以来R/GAのニューヨーク本社で活躍してきたクリエーティブ テクノロジストである。彼女の最初のプロジェクトであるNikeLabは翌年カンヌのサイバー部門で金賞を受賞した。 ナイキ、フォッシル、マスターカード、ノキア、ベライゾンなど様々なクライエントのウェブサイトやモバイルアプリを多数開発し、数多くの受賞暦がある。数年前にR/GAのプロトタイプ スタジオの創設メンバーに抜擢され、デザイナー、データ サイエンティスト、プログラマーなど多様性に富んだチームを結成した。 R/GAニューヨークでは、2012年に発売されたナイキフューエルバンドのiPhoneアプリの開発チームメンバーとして、また2015年にはフォッシル社のスマートウォッチのプロトタイプ開発などを手がけ、ウェアラブルのエクスペリエンスを作ってきた。 また、テクノロジーやエンジニア業界における、女性技術者の人数と地位向上を常に主張し、若い女性の理系教育の大事さを日頃から唱えている。
